4 Best Viewpoints in Krabi

1. Koh Hong Island Viewpoint

Koh Hong Island - one of the best viewpoints in Krabi
Koh Hong Viewpoint - one of the best viewpoints in Krabi

Experience the surreal beauty of Koh Hong from a 360-degree viewpoint. Climbing up is totally worth it to see the breathtaking scenery of limestone cliffs, white sand, and crystal-clear water from above. It feels like stepping into a Thailand postcard.

The stairs, with more than 400 steps, take about 20-30 minutes. At the top, you’ll find a platform with a full view of the surrounding bay. There’s not much shade, but you can still take breaks along the way. Remember to bring water, sun protection, and good shoes for the hike.

It’s best to go early in the morning or try in the afternoon to avoid crowds. Booking a private boat gives you the opportunity to have the best experience while beating the crowds, which is something we highly recommend in popular Krabi.

To get to Koh Hong Island, you can either book a shared or private tour. Honestly, if you can afford it, go for private; it won’t disappoint you. We are on a budget and always prefer doing fewer tours, but the ones we do are either in small or private groups. The experience is usually not comparable to shared tours.

Start the hike early in the morning to avoid the midday heat on the way up. Also, you will meet fewer people. Bring enough water, good hiking shoes, sun protection, and mosquito repellent.

We highly recommend walking to the small peninsula (at the western end of the beach) connected with a stretch of sand with a beach on both sides. On top of this rocky peninsula, you will find a viewpoint with amazing views of the beach and picturesque limestone cliffs in the backdrop.

Nopharat Thara Beach is easily accessible by a short 10-minute drive or a stroll along the coastline from the main area in Ao Nang.

To get to the most beautiful beach section and viewpoint of Nopharat Thara Beach, head to the western end of the beach, where the Nopharat Thara Pier is located. You can park your vehicle here.

At the end of the beach, a small peninsula full of rocks and trees is attached. There you will find a trail entrance between rocks, where you can climb up and arrive at the hidden viewpoint.

4. Hidden Railay Bat Cave

In between the popular attractions on the Railay Peninsula lies a hidden gem that not many people know about the Railay Bat Cave. Only a short hike from Ao Phra Nang beach, you will find breathtaking panoramic views of white sands and turquoise waters.

We usually are not fans of bat caves, but this one was different! There were no bats, no people, only possibly the best views of Ao Phra Nang Beach and Koh Rang Island. To get to the cave and viewpoint, be prepared for a short, but steep climb up, including bamboo ladders, ropes, and a narrow tunnel. Bring mosquito repellent.

How to get to the Railay Bat Cave?

To reach the hidden Railay Bat Cave, first, you need to get to the Railay Peninsula, accessible only by boat. Take a long-tail boat from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao; we chose the 10-15 minute ride from Ao Nang, costing 100 THB per person. The boat ride offers stunning views and drops you off at Railey Beach.

From there, it’s a 15-minute walk to Ao Phra Nang Beach. Follow the beach for about 10 minutes until you find a short green trail leading to the start of a 5-minute hike to the hidden cave. Beware, the trail is short but steep, with some parts requiring climbing.

PRO TIP: Stay on the Railay Peninsula overnight to be the first one exploring around in the early morning before all the day tourists arrive. We highly recommend staying at Railay Village Resort.
